Utilization of redundant "bandwidth-on-demand" solution. Depending on network traffic and nationwide bottleneck status, your web server traffic is routed down one or more OC-3 and SONET-OC48 Connections.  (OC-3 is a fiber optic, dedicated, point-to-point private-line service that operates as a full duplex digital channel at 155 Mbps. OC-48 is an optical transport protocol that makes it possible to carry up to 2.5 gigabits per second over fiber optical cable using SONET technology).

These circuits are provided by MCI/UUNet, Sprint, and AT&T. You are literally hosting your web site on a zero-hop Internet backbone. Your bandwidth allocation is on-demand, allowing you to always have the necessary bandwidth available for your web site.

The use of  only Cisco routing and switching equipment. Every server is fed into dual Catalyst 3500 high speed switches that channel all server traffic into redundant Juniper and Foundry routing equipment , using BGP4 routing protocol for complete redundancy. If one router should have an equipment failure, the other one picks up the traffic. This lowers the possibility of network downtime due to an equipment failure.

Your web site being available 24x7xForever and being fully recoverable is a necessity, yet most hosting companies view this as a luxury you should pay extra for.   All of our servers have dual redundant power supplies, dual load-balanced network cards plugged into different routers going into different backbones, and RAID V SCSI drive arrays.  This means that your server could lose a power supply, a network card, two hard drives, a router and two backbone providers at the same time and your web server would not go down.  In the event of a catastrophic server failure, all of your web server AND SQL Server data is backed up near-time to an external SCSI drive array, which is in turn backed up daily to DLT tape and stored off-site.  We guarantee your server will stay up short of an Act of God, and in that event, your data will be restored to a new server with minimal downtime, often in less than an hour. The internal network is connected to the outside world via two fail-over F5 BigIP Enterprise Controllers.

Power Backup

Your site will be backed up by fully redundant.  power systems. Your server will be connected to a 750KVa diesel generator for long-term fail-over in the event of a power failure.  Additionally, your server is located on three separate diverse power grids. Should we have a city-wide power grid failure, the other power grid will cycle within a matter of minutes.

Each rack of web servers is connected to multiple UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Liebert battery back up systems in a N+1 configuration, each designed to maintain a consistent level of amperage until the diesel generator takes over.  All power redundancies in place are immediate in a fail over situation and require no human intervention to become active.  For example, no one has to turn on the diesel generator.  It works in unison with the UPS system, monitoring the power situation and cycling automatically.
