The cost of data cabling in building a network makes up only about 5% of the total cost of the project but may have a dramatic effect of the speed, performance and trouble free operation of the ENTIRE network.

Cabling 5%
LAN/WAN 7%
Software 34%
Workstations 54%

The type of cables used in a network and the associated networking hardware will largely determine the speed and efficiency of your network.

  • CAT5
  • CAT5e
  • CAT6
  • Optical Fiber

Category 5 (100 MHZ) is rated at 100Mbps and is a good choice for most LAN installations still running 10Mbps equipment.

Category 5e (100 MHZ) is also rated at 100Mbps but has more stringent specifications for attenuation, return loss, power sum equal level far end cross talk and near end cross talk and will support full duplex fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet.

Category 6 (250 MHZ) specification was adopted in 2002 and provides even stricter noise and crosstalk requirements. All components of a CAT6 installation such as patch cables, jacks, patch panels, etc must meet CAT6 specs to achieve the higher performance level. CAT6's  improved immunity to noise may reduce the number of errors or re-transmissions of corrupted data packets resulting in better network reliability.

Optical Fiber is warranted where large amounts of high bandwidth data files are being transferred over long distances. The beauty of fiber optic cable is that it does not suffer from interference or significant loss of signal over great distances and offers the ultimate in data transit security.

Naturally, there is a downside to optical fiber and that is cost. A network utilizing fiber will typically cost twice as much as a CAT6 installation. Although prices appear to be steadily dropping with increased competition among fiber cable manufactures. With Gigabit Ethernet and video on demand becoming more common expect to see a gradual shift to reliance on fiber technology.

Cable Installation Services

Rapid growth in data transfer demands of today's systems have strained the existing copper cable infrastructure in many organizations. This can result in sub optimal performance and system down time.

The growing popularity of streaming media applications will soon test the limits of CAT5e.

Some studies indicate that data rates DOUBLE every 18 months.

If your network has outgrown its unsightly tangle of CAT3 or CAT5 cables, we can help with professionally designed, installed and tested cabling systems.

Native Technology Inc. can review your network bandwidth needs and recommend effective solutions that allow for current optimization and future expansion of your network.
